HIVSTERS is where People living with HIV (PLHIV) come together and celebrate the upside of being ‘positive’. So, if you’re one of the 28,000 Australians to have lost your ‘negativity’, Hivsters just might be your HIV happy place.
Founded in Melbourne, Hivsters is an online community group for people living with HIV. Currently operating in TWO states, one being Victoria and the other Queensland. Although primarily a social/support group, it is also a place for all People Living with HIV (PLHIV) irrespective of religion, gender, sexuality, age, race or culture to come together and celebrate the upside of being Positive. HIV does not discriminate and neither do we. The Hivsters mentality is that we have much to be thankful for, that we are fortunate to live in an era where modern HIV treatments enable us to live normal, long & rich lives, Lives almost unaffected if it wasn't for the stigmas faced daily by some in our community. Hivsters see these as reasons to celebrate life after treatment, to live well with HIV and as a community not to be silenced or held back by this virus any longer.
Firstly... You are not alone! There are many amazing people and great organisations, ready to help and support you through this. Receiving a positive diagnoses, whilst trying to maintain some form of a normal life, is never easy... but it can and has been done by many. So chin up because you are going to be fine. If you can't confide in a friend or family member just yet, here are some great organisations that will help you get the ball rolling and most importantly, get you back to doing the things you love instead of worrying.
